Being productive |
|
|
|
We all have an idea what it
means to be productive, but what is it exactly? How would you measure your
own productivity?
Economists measure the
productivity of a national economy. It is about the required labor as input
for the production of goods and services. When descending however from these
macro heights to the individual level it becomes clear that it is not that
easy to describe what the productivity of this single person is about. How
then are we to understand the contribution of the individual to the rest of
the organization?
|
|
|
Are you productive when you are
reading your e-mail in the morning? Or are you when -- in the coffee corner
-- chat with a colleague about something not directly related to work? |
|
|
Different roles when dealing with
being productive |
|
|
There are various careers where
productivity is reached at a very specific way. Think about the teacher or
the university professor. These career have their own rules about
productivity. "Deliver more output for the same amount of
human resources," is a rule that doesn't fit well for the teacher,
neither does it for the soccer-coach. But also for the ambassador, other
rules apply. Yet all these careers contribute to the overall productivity. |

The various roles within one
organization |
|
|
Also within an organization there are different
roles of productivity. Just imagine the variety of activities you undertake
each day. Responding to e-mail, listening to a presentation, the dialogue
with a colleague, the writing of a report, building an information
system. But also testing, the analysis of new market developments, redacting
a sales-prognosis, the instruction of new employees. |

Measuring
productivity and the relation with performance management
|
|
|
For all these roles you should
know to what extent they contribute to the overall level of productivity of
the organization. That is only possible if you know on an individual level
about the power of the role and how its fit the overall picture. Therefore
it is key to get more insight in the various roles. For the implementation
of performance management you need to know how to measure productivity on an
individual level. The step to manage all this is presented by the
assessment. |

The assessment - find out
more about your own productive role |
|
|
The objective of the assessment is to get
acquainted with the different roles. By means of a set of questions
(multiple choice) you are to select the one that best fits your situation.
This insight - apart from implementing performance management - offers you a
way to rethink your daily activities and time management... |
